![]() ![]() i think true crime has a place in the media that we consume and always has, it's something that people have always been interested in to some degree. ![]() ![]() It's really hard to separate my personal feelings from this and think about it in a way that isn't ruled by my own biases. #ELF PUTTY BLUSH TV#i just think too many of these people lie and pretend to care about victims when they see this as some horror campfire story rather than people's real trauma, and a lot of that is reflected in the way that they speak about victims of these cases as if they're a character in a tv show. i get the morbid fascination associated with true crime and i think that it's something very human, speaking as someone who used to be able to consume those documentaries. i support people making money and getting sponsorships. It's not that i don't think people shouldn't receive money for their work and it's not that i think making money should be off-limits for true crime creators. what i mind is the claims of these people that it's just "their passion" or how they "just want to give the victims a voice" but how so many of them say they won't or can't continue to do true crime content if they aren't given money for it, and how so many of these people first and foremost focus on the perpetrator rather than the victim. what i mind is the rampant sensationalism and disrespect towards the victims and their families. but by then it felt like the damage was already done just due to the triggering nature of the title putting my mother's name right next to the name of her murderer, or the thumbnail centering her murderer rather than her, or the fact that i could see that the most replayed part of that video was a close up of my mom's murderer's reaction in the courtroom. she cooperated and took the video down and apologized, and i appreciated that. When i found the video, i sent the creator a long, admittedly very angry email. #ELF PUTTY BLUSH FULL#highly sensationalized, a very gossipy tone, victim blaming (not towards my mother, just towards the previous abuse victim of her murderer), the comments full of insensitive and disgusting speculation and comments about the condition of my mom's corpse or scolding the video creator for not including more information about how her corpse was found, among so many other things. It actually happened earlier this year, and everything was exactly what i was afraid of. but as i saw the way that the true crime community progressed, i got more and more and more anxious that someone would report on my mom in that disrespectful way. i used to like them, used to watch true crime documentaries and tv shows with my mom, in fact. My mom was murdered when i was 16 years old, and my greatest fear over the years became someone making a true crime video on her just due to the climate of true crime videos. – Melt Cosmetics Digital Duo Blush in Queen Bee – Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Ash Brown – Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in Vanilla – Elf Acne Fighting Poreless Putty Primer **AFFILIATED LINK (I MAKE A COMMISSION AND/OR AM AFFILIATED WITH THE BRAND) Squishmallow cross stitch by: /oxmanoriginals WATCH THE VIDEO BEFORE COMMENTING!
